Welcome to the Richmond Academy of Medicine!

President's Message

Dear Members:

We are all welcoming the more relaxed months of June, July and August. As members and their families head for summer vacations, your Academy will continue to keep a vigilant eye on matters that effect all physicians - like the spiraling cost of medical malpractice insurance and Virginia's favorable med mal cap. Keeping Virginia a safe and responsible place where medicine can be practiced for the good of the community will always be a top priority of your Academy.

Plans are underway for exciting fall programs, too! The Academy is pleased to announce that Governor Bob McDonnell will join us on September 23, 2010 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts for a general membership meeting. The meeting opens with cocktails in Evans Court followed by dinner in the Marble Hall. During the cocktail hour (5:30 to 6:30 p.m.) Dr. John O'Bannon, his General Assembly colleagues and state agency officials will join us so RAM members can meet and greet their elected leaders. At the seated dinner, immediately following the cocktail hour, Governor McDonnell will address the health care challenges the Commonwealth faces as it adapts to federal health care changes. Physicians and health care executives face numerous challenges in the years ahead as the nation's health care system is revamped. Understanding the challenges and working together with elected leadership and community leaders to address them is key to building a healthier community.

The September 23 meeting is open to RAM members. Member reservations are required. Please email your RSVP to Vicki Foster . Guest fee is $40. Cancellation fee is $75.

Many thanks to RAM member Dr. Steve Long for his tremendous efforts in securing the Governor for this meeting.

Please remember, we are here to help you. We are a telephone, email away!

Summer Cheers,
Gigi deBlois, MD
