What is Access Now? Access Now is a Richmond-area specialty care network serving low-income, uninsured patients who do not have health insurance and do not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare. Patients participating in Access Now will receive free specialty care donated by area physicians. Access Now is adapted from Project Access, a physician volunteer program started in 1995 by the Buncombe County (North Carolina) Medical Society and replicated by nearly 100 medical societies nationwide. Access Now is a proven strategy to organize the existing (but fragmented) charity care into an equitable, cost-effective system. By donating care as part of Access Now, physicians' care will result in better patient health outcomes and lower overall, long-term costs to the providers and the community.
